It’s been over a year since our last camping trip to Christopher Creek, AZ where we woke at sunrise to a heard of cattle grazing outside of our tent. It always seems to be an adventure, but I love it.
THE RAIN GODS LET IT POUR
The entire week before it poured. We watched the weather, praying it would clear up for the weekend we had planned. Doug’s schedule doesn’t always line up with my weekends so it’s hard for us to plan a camping trip during a time that works for both of us.
On Thursday afternoon the weather said it would be clear by Saturday and our plans were back on schedule. We made the drive up to the lovely little city of Prescott, AZ and caught ourselves in a torrential downpour just as we were coming into town… And that is not an exaggeration. Judging by the mess it left over we weren’t sure we would even be able to camp.
CHECKING IN TO THE HOTEL DE IN-LAWS
Fortunately for us, Doug’s parents live in Prescott so we made the drive to their house and decided to stay the night to wait out the storm and mud. We met up with some friends that lived in town to have some dinner and drinks before we somehow convinced them to go camping with us the next day. (Misery loves company, amiright? 😉
AND THIS IS THE PART WHERE I RAVE ABOUT A TENT
I’m in love with a tent. A Coleman Instant Tent. It’s true. Doug officially has some pretty intents competition. 😉 It’s something I had my eyes on for more than 2 years, waiting patiently for the right time to make the purchase. And now that I have it, it doesn’t disappoint.
I almost feel guilty putting it up in under a minute because tents are typically the most time consuming part of camping, amiright? But then I realized… that’s not how it’s supposed to be! You’re supposed to enjoy your time outdoors rather than curse at yourself for ever having the idea. So we popped it up and sat back in our camping chairs, ate some Healthy Chocolate Peanut Butter Breakfast Bars, relishing in the pure beauty of an easy set up.
And it really isn’t an exaggeration when I say that it’s up in less than a minute. Just spread out the legs, pull up the top and it clicks in place like it’s magic or something. Our friends on the other hand… We had their tent up in twenty minutes between the four of us. Which isn’t bad, but it’s not 1 minute. 😉
